Working with artist Richard Woods at the weaving shed by UWE student Joseph Gower

March 31, 2008
As the first time working alongside a practicing artist I was really eager to get stuck in. A few days before Richard arrived we painted literally hundreds of boards ready for him to print. Printing the boards was a very social and enjoyable job somewhat like a dance; the smaller boards required you to walk one foot in front of the other keeping a steady balance, the larger boards required a shuffling forward momentum which left you feeling like a human printing press.

Being part of the creative process in making a professional artwork was an excellent opportunity and it is great to know that the piece will be a group artwork that I was a part of.

Work begins on Richard Woods Installation

March 17, 2008

Last week nine work placement student from the University of the West of England worked with Richard Woods to produce the material for his forthcoming installation at Rook Lane Chapel. This was the first time that Richard had produced his wood block printed floorboards in the town that they are later to be exhibited in which provided a unique opportunity for the students to be involved in the manufacturing process with this leading artist.
